What is a 3 Piece Bathroom (Three-Piece Bathroom)?
A three-piece bathroom (3-piece bath) is a restroom with three plumbing fixtures: a sink and a toilet, plus one other fixture.
Real Estate Agent Explains Three-Piece Bathrooms
A 3 piece bathroom is most likely a full bathroom, but the thing is, that the third fixture could be anything. If that third fixture were a sink, that bathroom would not actually be a full bathroom. Three piece bathrooms are not as common as four-piece bathrooms because of the shower/tub combinations that are so common now. Other types of bathrooms you might see in a listing are 2-piece bathrooms, 4-piece bathrooms, five-piece bathrooms and even six-piece bathrooms.
Three-piece bathrooms can be abbreviated as a 3-piece bath or 3pc bath on real estate listings.
The three fixtures of a three-piece bath could technically be any of the following:
• Sink, toilet, shower
• Sink toilet, bathtub
• Sink, sink, toilet (not likely, but technically possible)
Here is an example of how those three fixture layouts might look:
Why Does It Matter?
Well, if you were expecting to have a shower in a bathroom and found out it was actually a bathroom with a bathtub instead, you might be disappointed. So really it’s best to see the bathroom or restroom or at least a picture of it to know what it really is. Bathroom type is just another piece of information to help you find the right home for you.
